AT THE NUGGET One free roll event left in poker seriesPVT
The Nugget's No-Limit Hold'em World Series of Poker qualifying tournaments is rushing toward a conclusion. Only one free-roll remains; it will be contested Jan. 13 at the Nugget, starting at 4 p.m. To qualify for the January free roll, players must complete at least 40 hours of live play in the Nugget poker room in December. The 20-seat championship tournament -- to decide seats at the 2007 World Series of Poker -- will be Feb. 24 in the Nugget, which has paid out $21,000 in the 10 previous free-roll events. There is a new points leader after 10 tournaments. Tom Duke, after three second-place finishes in the previous nine events, won Saturday, beating Rollie Batayola with a pair of jacks on the final hand. Larry Mauch was third, with Jack Morgadonna fourth and Rene Soto fifth. Duke now has 25 points, with Blake Lozo's 20 ranking second. In the top five are Frank Polansky, 19 points; Jim Robertson, 15, and Rob Lisull, 14. Sixth with 13 points is Mauch. Tied for seventh with 10 points each are Butch Dole, Bernie DeSantos, and Buzz Busbee. The tournament winners have been Lozo (two), Robertson, Polansky, Lisull, Mauch, Dole, DeSantos and Busbee, as well as Duke (one each).
