Family to Family calendar

Movers and Shakers to meet

The regular meeting of the Pahrump Valley Movers and Shakers, a support group for people with Parkinson's disease, will be held at 9:30 a.m. Sept. 7 at Desert Greens Clubhouse, 350 W. Wilson Ave. (next to hospital).

Jodi Servin, M.S.W., L.S.W. from the National Parkinson Foundation, is the facilitator and consultant for the group. Plans will also be finalized for a group bus trip to Las Vegas Sept. 30 to hear an expert on Parkinson's disease.

Anyone with Parkinson's disease, as well as their caregivers and/or family members are welcome to attend this group. It is open also to anyone with a movement disorder. Light refreshments will be served.

Genealogical society meeting

The Pahrump Nevada Genealogical Society will meet at 6:30 p.m. Sept. 7 in the multi-purpose room of the LDS church on Wilson and West.

The program will be "A Pahrump perspective," by Roy Mankins.

PV Cruisers Blood drive

Pahrump Valley Cruisers: Hot Rods & Big Hearts will hold a blood drive from 4 to 8 p.m. Sept. 8 and from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. Sept. 9 at the Bob Ruud Community Center.

Every donor will get two free tickets to the Liberace Museum in Las Vegas.

Ministry for police officers

Peace Officers for Christ International (POFCI) is a volunteer, non-profit organization desiring to minister to police officers and their families.

PAC artist wanted to paint kiosk mural

The Pahrump Tourism Advisory Board (PTAB) is asking for a Pahrump Arts Council volunteer artist to paint a mural on the outside wall of the tourist information kiosk located at the Bob Ruud Community Center.

This is a volunteer effort, not a paid position. The PTAB will reimburse the artist for all materials required for the mural. The size of the wall is 8 by 20 feet with a center peak of 10 feet, 6 inches.

The PTAB requires a drawing of planned murals. Drawings may be submitted in pencil, ink, charcoal or paste, black and white or color to Kari Frilot (also a member of the PTAB) at the Pahrump Chamber of Commerce. Drawings may be mailed to: Pahrump Chamber of Commerce, P.O. Box 42, 2nd Floor, Pahrump, NV 89041.

Drawings must be submitted by Friday.

New Red Hat chapter

A new Red Hat group is starting in Pahrump; fun-loving ladies over 50 who like to "gad about" and have a good time with their friends are invited for coffee and chit chat at 10 a.m. today at the Elks Lodge on East Basin Avenue (well beyond the DMV building).

Homeschool Bowling League sign ups

Youths from 3 to 17 years old may sign up now with parental consent for the Homeschool Bowling League, which will meet at 9:15 a.m. Wednesdays during the season (Sept. 13 through Nov. 1).

The cost is $48 per child. No bowling experience is necessary; bowling coaching tips will be available and two games will be played each week (shoes included). The last day will include a pizza party and the presentation of trophies.

SafePlace seeking donated office space

SafePlace, an organization that is here in Pahrump to provide immediate help and support to youth in crisis, is trying to obtain donated office space that would adequately accommodate youth drop-ins and storage for supplies and donations.

The organization is new to Pahrump and would provide services such as crisis intervention, shelter, job placement, food vouchers, hygiene products, toiletries, transportation and much more.

Vendors needed

Rising Star Equestrian Association is currently taking applications for the R.S.E.A. Equine Extravaganza vendor breezeway Nov. 4-5 at McCullough Memorial Arena.

Ten by 10 booths are available for $40 and 5 percent profit for one day; and $60 and 2 percent of profit for two days.

Museum requests drawings

Pahrump Valley Museum is asking young artists to submit their own drawings to the museum.

Drawings may be used in the museum's newsletters and should be representative of desert life: flora, fauna, artifacts, people and places.

This volunteer, unpaid activity is designed to give young people a chance to showcase their art and create a portfolio.

PVHS seeks two volunteers

The Pahrump Valley High School's administrative office needs clerical assistance from 10:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. every day to answer phones, perform filing, greet people, etc.

The nurse's office needs a volunteer certified in cardio pulmonary resuscitation (CPR) and automated external defibrillator (AED) trained. This volunteer would also assist in performing health aide duties. Hours will be determined.

Both of these volunteers are needed as soon as possible.

CMA seeks event volunteers

The Nevada Country Music Association will participate in this year's Wild West Extravaganza and would like to invite all country music fans to join and come have fun at the associations' booth.

Volunteers are needed to give out flyers, talk about country music and enjoy the tunes played at the event. Those who can sing will be asked to do so. Call Bud at 751-2667 to join.

The September calendar of events for the VFW Post 10054 on Homestead Road is as follows: domestic beer $1.25, bottle beer $1.50, draft $1.25 every Thursday; breakfast served from 8 a.m. to 11 a.m. every Sunday, $4 donation; and full menu lunches served by Dennis from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. every Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday.

Gallery reception at RV park

The Pahrump Arts Council and the Charleston Peak RV Park club will host a gallery reception for a new mixed media, open show from 1 to 3 p.m. Friday at the Winery.

The Daughters of Mary will hold a fish dinner from 4-7 p.m. Friday in the church hall at 781 E. Gamebird Road.

VEA water heater pilot program

The Valley Electric Association (VEA) ambassadors are seeking qualified volunteers for its new VEA Domestic Solar Water Heater (DSWH) pilot program.

The purpose of the pilot program is to collect data that will enable VEA to determine if offering a solar water heater program to the full VEA membership is financially viable both for VEA and VEA members.

Volunteers wanted

The Town of Pahrump is seeking volunteers to fill one voting membership and one alternate membership on the Pahrump Tourism Advisory Board.

Preference will be given to applicants with ties to the tourism industry, i.e., hotel, casino, advertising, restaurant, RV park or other related industry.

Artistic Centre registration

The Artistic Centre will hold registration for fall classes from noon to 5 p.m. until Sept. 1 in the Wheeler Springs Plaza at 921 S. Highway 120, Suite 407.

Ballet, pointe, tap, jazz, hip hop, combo, gymnastics and acting and singing classes are available for students 3-18 years of age. Classes start Sept. 5.
