After an incident on Monday afternoon in which a suspect tried to run over four detectives, the Nye County Sheriff's Office believes that four people were involved in the shooting of Dep. Harry Williams.

Detectives approached the Linda Street residence of a male believed to have information about the identity of two of the suspects in Sunday's assault. Two of the detectives went around to the back of the house and saw two men by some parked vehicles.

When they approached, the men got into one of the cars. The driver, later identified as Charlton D. Finch, 35, began to reach toward the floor.

The detectives, identifying themselves, called upon Finch to show his hands. Finch refused and continued to reach for something, according to a Sheriff's Office statement. He then started the engine and accelerated rapidly toward the detectives.

The detectives had to jump out of the path of the vehicle to avoid being hit. As the car sped away, three detectives shot at Finch.

The detectives gave chase in their own vehicles. Finch refused to stop until his vehicle had mechanical failure. Then he fled on foot but was quickly subdued and arrested.

Finch was charged with assault with a deadly weap on peace officers and attempting to elude peace officers. Bail was set at $12,427.
