Office technology classes set for Pahrump

The fall semester at Great Basin College Pahrump Valley Center is about to get under way, with most classes starting Aug. 28. Courses in computer office technology are among the dozens being offered at the Pahrump Valley Center.

CIT 110, A+ Hardware (call number 23354). The course covers hardware and software diagnostics, system troubleshooting, and methods of achieving effective system upgrades to enhance capabilities or improving system performance.

There are several computer office technology courses offered in a five-week session ranging from Computer Basics to Excel throughout the fall semester for students looking for a more specific area of hands on with computers.

COT 204, Using Windows (call number 23341) gives students the fundamentals to operate the Windows system, how to customize the Windows environment and how to use the various accessories.

IS 101, Introduction to Information Systems (call numbers 23377 and 23378) offers an introduction to computer-based information systems management including hardware/software relationships, business applications usage, systems theory, current technology, networking, the Internet, computer security and privacy issues.

IS 201, Computer Applications (call number 23423) is an introduction to the most commonly used microcomputer business software with emphasis on operating systems, word processing, spreadsheets, database management, presentation software, and software integration.

All courses range to one credit or more. The tuition is $52.50 per credit and tech fees are $4 per credit. Lab fees will vary upon the course students wish to take. Registration for these courses and dozens of other courses at the Pahrump Valley Center and throughout Nye County are under way. Course schedules are arriving in households throughout the county, and are available at the PVC and satellite centers throughout Nye County.
