310 will lose jobs at Pahrump Nugget
The Pahrump Nugget Hotel and Gaming Hall will terminate 310 employees once the Nevada Gaming Commission approves the sale of the property to Mammoth Ventures, although the new owners will then interview, and possibly rehire, many of the former employees.

Petition seeks 24-hour pharmacy service
A Pahrump woman has collected more than 1,000 signatures in just over two and a half weeks that urge pharmacies in town to stay open later -- ideally 24 hours per day.

County rejects plan to split veterans officer's schedule
Robert Vernon, the new veterans service representative for northern Nye and Esmeralda counties, didn't even make it to the microphone before a request to divide his time between Tonopah and Pahrump was denied by Nye County Commissioners Tuesday.

Making change: Tales of Dad and Scotty
A couple of weeks ago, an article appeared in the New York Times under the headline, "Diners Beware: Tourists Pay More in Roman Restaurants." The gist of the piece, really to the surprise of few, was that tourists in Rome are often overcharged and served lower-quality food and drink than Roman diners. Even people from northern Italy, who typically speak Italian with an accent, are not immune to such culinary chicanery. "It's part of the Italian psyche," one chef is quoted as saying, "and I don't think it is done without humor."
