Pahrump Valley starts its 2006 high school volleyball season in the 16th annual Las Vegas Invitational Tournament Friday, competing in Pool G play at Green Valley High School in Henderson.

Directed by first-year coach Richard Barker, the Lady Trojans are to play at 3 p.m. Friday against Class 4-A Green Valley. Pahrump Valley will face Snow Canyon, Utah, at 4 p.m., and at 6 p.m., 4-A Las Vegas Cimarron-Memorial will be the opposition.

Entered in the tournament are Las Vegas-area teams Henderson Coronado, Boulder City, Las Vegas Palo Verde, Rancho, Bishop Gorman, Eldorado, Las Vegas, Spring Valley, Durango, Foothill, Moapa Valley, Faith Lutheran, Valley, Arbor View, Centennial, Sierra Vista and Basic.

Utah teams include Skyline, Cedar City, Pine View, Dixie, Lyman, Provo, Lone Peak, and Hurricane.

First- and second-place teams from Friday's matches will qualify for the championship division pools Saturday. Third- and fourth-place teams will be moved into Saturday's consolation division pools.

Bracket matches will begin at 2:30 p.m.Saturday. Championship matches will be played at Las Vegas High, with the consolation division at Green Valley.

At Las Vegas High, all teams finishing first or second in morning pool play Saturday will advance to the Gold Division. Third- and fourth-place teams go into the Silver Divsion. At Green Valley, there will be bracket games in Bronze and Copper Divisions.
