Boy Scout project to aid Pahrump Scouts

Boy Scout Troop No. 808 is developing a camping equipment storage project where equipment can be loaned free of charge to boy and girl scouts in the Pahrump Valley who cannot afford to buy their own.

The troop is requesting donations of any used or new camping items for this project. All types of gear are needed; tents, stoves, pots, utensils, sleeping bags, etc ...

Daughters of Mary fish dinners are back

The Daughters of Mary are resuming their first Friday of the month fish dinners. The first one will be held from 4-7 p.m. Sept. 1 in the church hall at 781 E. Gamebird Road.

Fried or baked fish, fish tacos, homemade clam chowder and desserts will be available. The dinner is dine in or take out.

Democratic meeting

The Nye County Democrat Central Committee meeting will be held at 7 p.m. Monday at the Bob Ruud Community Center, Room B.

Nye County Law Enforcement Association members will discuss candidates for sheriff and commissioners in the general election.

Drug court dinner

The Fifth Judicial District Adult Drug Court program will hold its "Third Annual Drug Court appreciation dinner" at 6 p.m. Friday at the Pahrump Nugget Hotel.

There will be auctions, door prizes and raffles the night of the dinner. All funds are to benefit the Pahrump Drug Court programs.

Tickets may be purchased in advance at the Chamber of Commerce or by calling 751-4210.

New Red Hat chapter

A new Red Hat group is starting in Pahrump; fun-loving ladies over 50 who like to "gad about" and have a good time with their friends are invited for coffee and chit chat at 10 a.m. Aug. 30 at the Elks Lodge on E. Basin Ave. (well beyond the DMV building).

Prostate cancer support meetings

The prostate cancer support group meetings for June and July were canceled due to a change of business hours at the community college.

However, the meetings will resume at 6:30 p.m. Thursday at the community college on Calvada Boulevard (next to the high school). Future meetings will be held each month at the same time and location on the fourth Thursday of each month.

Males over the age of 40 are encouraged to attend these meetings to learn about the latest detection methods and treatment options.

Panic disorder group

Panic Relief Inc., a non-profit organization, is forming a group to help people who suffer from panic, anxiety and agoraphobia to control panic attacks and anticipatory anxiety while learning how attitudes and current thoughts affect panic and anxiety.

The group meets from noon to 1 p.m. Mondays and from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. Wednesdays.

School bus information

The Nye County School District reminds parents that students in the Pahrump attendance area must be registered to ride a school bus through the transportation office.

Registration/application forms were mailed in July. If forms were not received, parents/guardians may go towww.nye.k12.nv.us and click "forms."

Rosemary Clarke parent orientation

Rosemary Clarke Middle School will hold a parent orientation at 6 p.m. Thursday for sixth grade and at 7 p.m. Thursday for seventh and eighth grades in the gym.

Parents will meet for a brief session and will tour the school's campus.

Freshman orientation

Pahrump Valley High School will hold freshman orientation from 9 a.m. to noon Thursday at the Ninth Grade Academy gym.

This is a chance to see the school, meet teachers, receive schedules and more.

Hospice camp for children

Nathan Adelson Hospice presents Camp Mariposa Washoshe, for children ages 6-12 who have experienced the death of a close friend or loved one.

The camp will be held Friday to Sunday at Camp Lee Canyon at Mt. Charleston. Space is limited to 50 children from Pahrump and Las Vegas.
