NIAA announces dates, sites for its tournaments

The Beatty High School football team, under the direction of first-year coach Gus Sullivan, is preparing for its 2006 opener next Friday at Southern Class A rival Laughlin. The Cougars were a playoff team in 2005, going 1-1, including a 62-40 victory against Nevada 1-A Central Division champion Tonopah.

Pahrump Valley will have its first Maroon-Gold intrasquad football game Saturday, starting at 9 a.m. on the Rosemary Clarke Middle School field. The PVHS stadium field is undergoing renovations, with the first game to be played there Sept. 8 against Chino, Calif., Don Lugo. The Trojans’ coaching staff, led by Brian Hug (center) includes, from left, Andy Schneider, Bob Bruce, Joey Arone, Wiley Meade, Preston Dockter and Steve Crutchlow. Meade formerly coached at Las Vegas Bishop Gorman, while Crutchlow was a coach in three sports in Michigan. Dockter is a 2002 graduate of PVHS.

Pahrump Valley High School will be the site for the 2007 Southern Nevada Class 3-A regional tournaments in baseball and fast-pitch softball, the Nevada Intderscholastic Activities Association announced on its Web site (www.niaa.com).

On the same dates and in the same sports, Tonopah will host the 2007 Southern Class 1-A regional tournaments.

The NIAA announced dates and sites for all of its 2006-2007 championship playoff events.

Mountain Falls Golf Club in Pahrump will host the Southern 3-A girls golf regionals the week of Oct. 9.

It was also announced that Southern 3-A football will not have playoffs; the top two finishers in the league's regular-season standings will advance directly to the state semifinals, to be played Nov. 11 at sites to be announced.

Pahrump Valley, as well as Boulder City, Mesquite Virgin Valley, Overton Moapa Valley and Las Vegas Faith Lutheran, is in the Southern 3-A league.

Other Southern 3-A post-season sites and dates:

CROSS COUNTRY -- Oct. 27 at Mountain View Park in Laughlin.

BOYS, GIRLS SOCCER -- Nov. 2 and 4 at Bettye Wilson Soccer Complex, on the Cimarron-Memorial High School campus in Las Vegas.

GIRLS VOLLEYBALL -- Nov. 3 at Virgin Valley High School in Mesquite.

GIRLS GOLF -- Oct. 9, 10, 11 or 12, at Mountain Falls Golf Club in Pahrump.

BOYS, GIRLS BASKETBALL -- Feb. 15 and 17, 2007, at Del Sol High School in Las Vegas.

WRESTLING -- Feb. 3, 2007, at Faith Lutheran High School in Las Vegas.

TRACK AND FIELD -- May 11-12, at Faith Lutheran.

Beatty and Round Mountain, along with Tonopah, are in the Nevada Class A Central Division. Dates and sites for Southern regionals in 1-A are:

FOOTBALL -- Regionals Nov. 4 at host sites (higher-seeded teams).

CROSS COUNTRY -- Oct. 27 at Mountain View Park in Laughlin.

VOLLEYBALL -- Nov. 3-4 at Lund High School.

BOYS, GIRLS BASKETBALL -- Feb. 13-14 at host sites; Feb. 16 at Durango High School in Las Vegas; Feb. 17 at Del Sol.

WRESTLING -- Feb. 2-3 at White Pine High School in Ely.

BASEBALL -- May 11-12 at Tonopah High School.

FAST-PITCH SOFTBALL -- May 11-12 at Tonopah High School.

TRACK AND FIELD -- May 11-12 at Faith Lutheran.

BOYS GOLF -- May 7-10 (one-day event), at The Palms, Mesquite; Moapa Valley host school).

State tournament sites are:

CLASS A FOOTBALL -- Nov. 18, Noon, at Arbor View High School in Las Vegas.

CLASS 2-A FOOTBALL -- Nov. 18, 3 p.m., at Arbor View

CLASS 3-A FOOTBALL -- Nov. 18, 6 p.m. at Arbor View.

(Sam Boyd Stadium is not available that weekend.)

CLASS 4-A FOOTBALL --Dec. 2, noon, at Sam Boyd Stadium on the UNLV campus.

CROSS COUNTRY -- Nov. 4, at Veterans Memorial Park in Boulder City (All classes).

BOYS, GIRLS SOCCER -- Nov. 10-11, at Betty Wilson Soccer Complex (All classes). Class 4-A in Northern Nevada will play its state tournament the week of Oct. 28.

VOLLEYBALL -- Nov. 10-11, at Galena High School in Reno. (All classes).

GIRLS GOLF -- Oct. 16-19 (to be determined), at Genoa Lakes Resort, Reno. 36-hole medal play.

BOYS, GIRLS BASKETBALL -- Feb. 22-24, at The Orleans Arena and two high school sites in Las Vegas. (All classes).

WRESTLING -- Feb. 9-10, at Spanish Springs High School, Sparks. (All classes).

FAST-PITCH SOFTBALL -- May 18-19, Class A, Southern site to be announced ... May 18-19, Class 2-A, at Needles, Calif. ... May 18-19, Class 3-A, at Faith Lutheran in Las Vegas ... Class 4-A, May 18-19, at Stephanie Lynn Craig complex in Henderson.
