Desert View Regional Medical Center has announced that two new general surgeons are joining its staff: Dr. Ming-Wei Wu, a laparoscopic and bariatric surgeon, and Dr. Stuart M. Hoffman, a laparoscopic surgeon.

Laparoscopy is the surgical procedure by which a fiber-optic instrument is inserted through the abdomen wall to view organs within.

Both doctors will be available to cover emergency as well as elective surgeries. Each doctor's special skills will provide Pahrump residents access to additional surgical procedures, said Desert View CEO David Rencher.

Wu's areas of expertise include vascular care, including amputations, wound care and gastrointestinal, including colonoscopy and sigmoidoscopy.

His general surgery services include any laparoscopic or open abdominal surgery, breast or sentinel lymph node surgery and colorectal or anal surgery.

Hoffman, who has served the Pahrump community for almost three years, will hold clinics at the hospital every other week. The clinics will be conducted twice each week.

For more information on patient care issues, Hoffman can be reached at (702) 939-1900. Wu's office can reached at 751-7575.
