A special Luminaria ceremony will be held during the American Cancer Society's Relay For Life -- Pahrump will remember those lost to cancer and will honor those who have survived.

Luminaria candles will be lit at Petrack Park on the evening of Aug. 19 at sundown to represent those individuals.

Anyone desiring to purchase a Luminaria may do so by contacting 910-9574.

Luminaria candles are available for a donation of $10. All funds raised through these sales support the programs and services of the American Cancer Society.

"It will be beautiful when all the bags with candles are illuminated around the track," said Manon Rodriguez, Relay for Life Event Chair. "We hope to sell enough to light the entire area."

Relay For Life brings numerous groups and individuals concerned about cancer together for a unified effort to fight back. Former and current cancer patients, their families, businesses, civic organizations, and the public are invited to take part in this exciting team event.

This "celebration of life" takes place Aug. 19 at 6:00 p.m. to Aug. 20 at 6:00 a.m. at Petrack Park.

Relay For Life is a family-oriented event where participants enjoy the camaraderie of a team and also raise funds to support the activities of the American Cancer Society. Participants camp out at the Relay site, and when they are not taking their turn walking or running, they take part in fun activities and enjoy local entertainment.

Pahrump's cancer survivors will kick-off Relay for Life on Aug. 19 at 6:00 p.m. with the first official lap; then the rest of the participants join the fun.
