DeSantos joins free roll winners
Bernie DeSantos, a poker dealer at Terrible's Town, is the latest winner in a series of World Series of Poker no-limit Texas hold'em free roll tournaments at the Nugget. DeSantos used a full house - three jacks, two fours - to beat Frank Polansky for the August title Saturday; he earned 10 points and ranks fifth on the list of 21 players who have scored at least one point in six free roll tournaments. A total of $12,600 has been paid. The free rolls are to determine 20 players who will battle it out in February for a $10,000 seat in the 2007 World Series of Poker. The next qualifier is Sept. 9 at 4 p.m.; players can earn a place in that free roll by accumulating 40 hours of live play at the Nugget in August. Polansky, who has placed in five of the six free rolls, now has 19 points and trails Blake Lozo by a point. The top five Saturday were Rob Reddick, third; Rob Lisull, fourth, and Skip Woodland, fifth. Twenty six players started. Lozo, a Pac-10 football official and part-time poker dealer, won the March and April tournaments. Jim Robertson is third with 15 points, with Lisull fourth at 12. Ten points are awarded for first place, five for second, three for third, two for fourth, and one for fifth, with $2,100 in cash distributed in each event.
