HORACE LANGFORD JR. / PVT A Friday afternoon brush fire behind some homes on Firebird Circle, off the east end of Bourbon Street, got up to the chain link fence behind one residence before being brought to a halt, reported Fire Chief Scott Lewis. It also spread down a nearby wash and turned some small trees into charcoal skeletons. In the surrounding area, fire danger was in the "very high" category, which may not be "extreme," but nonetheless calls for constant vigilance.
