Candidates for Nye County sheriff spent a combined $82,082 just in the period from Jan. 15 through Aug. 8, according to campaign expense reports on file with the Nye County clerk's office. That figure would amount to almost $2 spent for each Nye County resident and more than $4 on each registered voter. Some candidates filed reports with the Nevada Secretary of State's office. County Clerk Sam Merlino said the instructions were very specific. They were to file those reports for county offices with the county clerk. Reports sent to the Nevada Secretary of State's office were forwarded to the county clerk. Thus, incumbent Sheriff Tony DeMeo's campaign expense report was available this week. DeMeo reported $38,624 in donations and $31,339 in expenses. That's ahead of his nearest challenger in the fundraising, former Sheriff Wade A. Lieseke Jr., who reported $25,595 in donations and $26,754 in expenses. DeMeo, however, lists $21,162 he contributed to his own campaign. Other contributors who donated $1,000 each include Acem Enterprises PAC of Las Vegas, William Civitello of Pahrump, Wayne Hage's widow, Helen Hage of Tonopah, Hollis Harris Realty, Shadow Mountain Construction, S.H. Lincoln PAC and Smaxy PAC. The Stagecoach Hotel in Beatty donated $2,000. U.S. Sen. Harry Reid's Searchlight Leadership Fund donated $800. DeMeo also collected $500 each from Pat Bain, Phillip Henry, Carolyn Hopkins, Billy Parker, Earl Siddall and William White. Builder Tony Alosi gave $675 and $750 of in-kind contributions. Saitta-Trudeau gave $1,200 of in-kind contributions. DeMeo spent $13,500 with High Impact Signs, $2,385 with KPVM-TV, $4,400 with D-2 Designs and $2,877 with the Pahrump Valley Times as his major expenses. Nevada Assembly District 36 candidate Laurayne Murray's report was available online. Murray filed with the Nevada Secretary of State's office, since she's running for a statewide office. Murray reported $34,721 in contributions and $26,889 in expenses. The candidates for Assembly District 36 spent a combined $108,023 to win election since Jan. 15. Republican Ed Goedhart is the top fund raiser with $45,239 collected. He also spent the most by far: $60,949. Murray lists contributions from various Democratic state legislators. She received $5,000 from Assemblyman John Oceguera of Las Vegas, $5,000 from Assemblywoman Barbara Buckley of Las Vegas, $2,500 from the Democratic Assembly Caucus, $2,000 from Acme Enterprises PAC and $1,500 from Assemblyman Marcus Conklin of Las Vegas. Murray received $1,000 apiece from Bill Wahl of Amargosa Valley, Bill Barrackman of Amargosa Valley, K.K. Ratcliff of Las Vegas, At&T Corp., Stations Casinos, and the AFL-CIO. She received $500 each from Nevada Democratic Party Chairman Tom Collins, Assemblyman Jerry Claborn of Las Vegas, the Hafen Ranch, Assemblywoman Marilyn Kirkpatrick of North Las Vegas, Employers Insurance, Terrible's Herbst, Southern Nevada Home Builders, Assemblyman David Parks of Las Vegas, Assemblyman William Horne of Las Vegas, Operating Engineers No. 3, DFEN, Southwest Gas, Nevada Power, Silver State 21st Century PAC and Operating Engineers No. 2. Murray spent $5,845 with Bridge Communications of Newington, Conn., $3,226 with Time Printing, $3,674 with PDQ Printing and $1,572 on herself, as her major expenses. District Attorney Bob Beckett is unopposed in his bid for re-election but filed a report listing $38,177 in contributions and $23,901 in expenses from Jan. 15 through Aug. 8. Beckett received $5,000 from Ponderosa Dairy, $4,000 from Mountain Falls and $2,500 each from Mid-Valley Enterprises, HSLV Development Corporation and Forum of Las Vegas. He received $1,000 apiece from the Pahrump Nugget, Hollis Harris Realty, America West, G. Dennis Leakes, V-Port, Smaxy PAC, S.H. Lincoln PAC, Acme Enterprises PAC, China Wok and Bragg Smith International. Beckett collected $500 each from Hafen and Hafen Realty, Valley Homes Inc., Tom Pitaro, attorney John Momot, Double M Construction and William White. Beckett spent $2,100 on Freeland Signs and Printing, $2,333 with Focal Point Graphics, $3,200 with Laura Billman and repaid $14,195 in campaign debts dating back to 1994. Nye County Commission District 4 candidate Alan Bigelow's campaign expense report was on file with the county clerk's office this week. Bigelow reported $8,900 in donations and $7,676 in expenses. That still puts him behind Andrew "Butch" Borasky who raised $13,040 and spent $9,989. Bigelow collected $2,500 from Caitlin Enterprises, $1,500 apiece from Spring Valley Hospital in Las Vegas and S.H. Lincoln PAC, and $1,000 each from Acme Enterprises PAC and Smaxy PAC. Bigelow spent $2,669 with Focal Point Graphics, $1,045 with KPVM-TV and $3,000 with Pete Liakopuolos Productions. Andrew "Andy" Alberti, also a district four candidate, doesn't list any donations and $502 in expenses. Nye County School Board candidate Mike Floyd's report lists no donations and $2,050 in spending with Focal Point Signs. His opponent, Larry Lackey, doesn't list any donations and $245.57 in expenses. Pahrump Justice of the Peace candidate Michael Foley doesn't list any donations and $1,368 in expenses. Treasurer candidate Lane Kriegh reported $4,998 in donations and $4,798 in expenditures. He lists $3,882 of his own money and $500 from Saitta Trudeau, as well as $500 of in-kind contributions from former Pahrump town board member Ed Bishop. Kriegh spent most of his money with Freelance Signs and Printing, $381.75. |
