GBC offers several career, technical courses
The fall semester at Great Basin College Pahrump Valley Center is about to get under way, with most classes starting Aug. 28. Courses in automotive, computer-aided drafting and welding are among the dozens being offered at the Pahrump Valley Center. AUTO 101 Introduction to General Mechanics (call number 25517) examines the basic maintenance procedures of the major components of the automobile using service repair manuals, hand and power tools, precision measurement equipment, fasteners, and chemicals. CADD 100 Introduction to Computer-Aided Drafting (call number 24908) explores the basic capabilities of a computer-aided drafting system. It includes appropriate hardware, software, and applicable commands. MTL 212 Welding I (call number 23370) gives students an introduction to shielded metal arc welding (SMAW). The course also includes oxy-fuel cutting. Shop safety is emphasized. AUTO 101 is a four credit course, while CADD 100 and MTL 212 are three-credit courses. Tuition and fees are $251 to $219.50 for each course. Registration for these courses and dozens of other courses at the Pahrump Valley Center and throughout Nye County is taking place. Course schedules are arriving in households throughout the county and are available at the PVC and satellite centers throughout Nye County. Students may register in person at the PVC at 551 East Calvada Blvd. in Pahrump, or online at www.gbcnv.edu.
