FISHING REPORT

EAGLE VALLEY RESERVOIR

Trout fishing continues to be good, with mornings still being the best time for catching fish as monsoonal storms are chasing people off the lake in the afternoons. Spinners, worms and PowerBait have been the most successful.

ECHO CANYON RESERVOIR

Fishing for largemouth bass and Crappie continues to be excellent in the mornings and evenings with some crappie up to 11 inches being caught, according to Ranger Ben Johnson. Largemouth bass have been caught using top-water lures, while crappie have been caught using multi-colored jigs. Trout fishing has been slow due to high water temperatures.

LAKE MEAD

Top water action for striped bass appears to be in full swing throughout the Boulder Basin. Striper in the 12- to 15-inch range are being caught in good numbers from 33 Hole to Government Wash with a variety of lures. Striper are still being caught sporadically off the Special Events and Sail beaches.

Large striper and catfish are being caught in the Overton Arm. On Saturday, a 13 year-old Las Vegas girl fishing with a salmon lure near Ann Margaret Cove reeled in a 19-pound striper. On Sunday another local angler fishing off a point outside Echo Bay caught a 12-pound striper.

A group of anglers fishing near the Echo Bay Marina brought in a total of 25 catfish last weekend. Cut bait was used to catch the fish.

Hannah Sommers, 13, caught a 19 pound striper Aug. 5 while fishing near Ann Margaret Cove on Lake Mead.

LAKE MOHAVE

After a rainbow trout plant Aug. 4, anglers fishing Willow Beach on Saturday had good luck with a number of 10 fish limits reported. The catch rate dropped off significantly by Sunday with the 20 anglers contacted catching a total of six trout. No striper were reported caught over the weekend.

WAYNE E. KIRCH WILDLIFE MANAGEMENT AREA

Anglers continue to experience good to excellent fishing for largemouth bass at Adams-McGill, Cold Springs and Haymeadow reservoirs. Trout fishing has been fair. The upper ends of Adams-McGill and Dacey reservoirs re-open to fishing Tuesday. Daytime temperatures have been in the mid 90s while evenings have been dropping into the 50s.

URBAN PONDS

Channel catfish were scheduled to be stocked Thursday in ponds at Floyd Lamb State Park, Lorenzi Park and Sunset Park in Las Vegas, Veterans Memorial Park in Boulder City and Hafen Park in Mesquite.
