Nugget free roll tourney Saturday

Twenty-six players have qualified for the August no-limit hold'em poker free roll tournament, to be contested Saturday at the Nugget. The first card is in the air at 4 p.m.

The tournament is the sixth in a series of tournaments that will help determine a Pahrump representative in the 2007 World Series of Poker.

Players qualify for the free roll by completing at least 40 hours of live play each month at the Nugget. Remaining tournaments are Sept. 9, Oct. 14, Nov. 11, Dec. 9, Jan. 13 and Feb. 11 (which is the championship event).

In the free roll, players are awarded 10 points and $1,000 for winning; 5 points and $500 for second; 3 points and $300 for third; 2 points and $200 for fourth, and 1 point and $100 for fifth. A total of $10,500 has been paid out to 19 players thus far.

The points leader is Blake Lozo, who won the April and May tournaments to record 20 points and earn $2,000. Jim Robertson (15, $1,500) prevailed in March; Frank Polansky (14 points, $1,400) won in July, and Rob Lisull (10 points, $1,000) triumphed in June.

Tied for fifth place with five points each are Ben Lagos, Tom Duke, Ken Fiege, Russ Eleogram and Andy Franzen. Tied for 10th with three points each are Doug Gregcory, Todd Bock and Ron Lankenbuhl.

In a tie for 13th with two points apiece are Nella Lawson, Ray Guin, Rupert Hodnett and Don McDermott. Mike Greenwich and Skip Woodland are tied for 18th with one point each.

Dates for the 2007 World Series of Poker have not been announced, but they are expected to be similar to the 2006 WSOP, which began June 24 and reached the final table Thursday.
