By PHILLIP GOMEZDeputies foil burglary, chase down suspectsPVT
Deputies were dispatched to northeast Pahrump last Thursday afternoon on a report of a prowler attempting a burglary in the area of Panther Way. Before they arrived, however, the deputies were informed that the suspect vehicle was leaving the scene. Two occupants were in the vehicle when deputies made their approach. But the suspects led deputies on a wild pursuit through the north end of the valley before the vehicle was disabled and parked behind a residence. Deputies surrounded the block and apprehended the driver, Kevin L. Causey, 47, but his passenger, Billy L. Pattillo, 24, took off on foot. Pattillo stole a pickup from a residence and then led deputies on a second chase. Deputies effectuated a "pursuit intervention technique" (PIT) in order to bring the car chase to a speedy end without serious injuries to anyone involved. "We pitted him," said Capt. Bill Becht with the Sheriff's Office Command, explaining that the technique involves "nudging the quarter rear of the pursued vehicle, causing instability so it spins out of control." In this case the vehicle rolled. Pattillo, who was not wearing a seatbelt, was ejected from the pickup but was unharmed. He was taken to the hospital, but is now in the Nye County detention facility. Methamphetamine -- 11 grams packaged for sale -- was allegedly found on Pattillo. Investigation revealed that Causey and Pattillo had gone to the Panther Way address in an attempt to burglarize the residence, according to the officers' report. Both suspects were found to be under the influence of meth. It was later discovered that the vehicle, belonging to Causey, contained hypodermic needles, more methamphetamine, drug paraphernalia and burglary tools. Causey and Pattillo were booked on bail of $45,846 and $46,956, respectively, according to the Sheriff's Office. Charges between them range from felony eluding to grand larceny auto. Other charges include reckless driving, failure to stop at a stop sign, conspiracy, attempted burglary, unlawful possession of burglary tools, trafficking in controlled substances, possession of methamphetamine with intent to sell, possession of hypodermic needles and drug paraphernalia. |
