Bishop Gorman to play Las Cruces in regionals at Albuquerque, N.M.

Las Vegas Post 76 will play Las Cruces, N.M., Post 10 in the American Legion baseball Western Regionals at 10 a.m. Thursday, in a first-round game at Isotope Park in Albuquerque.

Bishop Gorman is the Las Vegas representative, having won the Nevada state championship Saturday with an 8-5 conquest of Sierra Vista at Wilson Field on the UNLV campus. Gorman is 50-11, while Las Cruses, the New Mexico state champ, is 35-5.

In other first-round games, it will be:

At Lobo Field

Kalani, Hawaii, 21-1, vs. Taylorsville, Utah, Post 38, 20-3, at 9 a.m. Thursday;

Auburn, Calif., Post 64, 39-9, vs. Louisville, Colo., Post 111, 40-8, at noon Thursday.

At Isotope Park

Tucson Post 7, no record available, vs. Albuquerque Post 49, no record available, 1 p.m. Thursday.

The tournament runs through Monday, with most of the games at Lobo Field.

The championship game will be played at Isotope Park at 10 a.m. Monday, an 'if necessary' contest would follow.

Nevada's Senior Little League baseball representative from Las Vegas was 3-2 in the West regionals in Oregon last week. The Nevadans defeated Seattle, Wash., 8-6; Portland, Ore., 4-0, and Salem, Ore., 21-1, before bowing 16-2 to East Anaheim, Calif., and 4-1 to Billings, Mont.

In the Junior regionals in Oregon, Henderson, Nevada's entry, defeated Snow Canyon, Utah, 2-0 and Gastineau Chanel, Alaska, 15-1, before falling 5-2 to Cascade, Wash. Nevada was to play Idaho Tuesday.

Lone Mountain, the Silver State's Major Division representative, bounced Snow Canyon, Utah, 6-0, before losing 9-1 to Fresno, Calif. Nevada was to play Phoenix, Ariz., Monday and Northridge, Calif., today.
