Site: Indianapolis

Schedule: Saturday, qualifying, 10 a.m.; Sunday, race (NBC, 2 p.m.).

Track: Indianapolis Motor Speedway (rectangular oval, 2.5 miles, 9 degrees banking in turns).

Race distance: 400 miles, 160 laps.

Last year: Tony Stewart won for the fourth time in six races after taking the Allstate 400.

Fast facts: Robert Yates Racing released crew chiefs Tommy Baldwin and Slugger Labbe from their contracts Monday. Yates gave no reason for the crew chief departures, announcing only that Cully Barraclough would take over Sadler's team and Butch Hylton will be in charge of Jarrett's team beginning this weekend. ... Jeff Gordon has four wins at Indianapolis, one shy of Formula One driver Michael Schumacher's record for most ever at the track. ... Earnhardt dropped to 11th in the standings after consecutive last-place finishes. He was third after the Joliet, Ill., event July 9. ... Points leader Jimmie Johnson finished 38th in last year's race after placing 36th in the 2004 event.

Hungarian Grand Prix

Site: Budapest

Schedule: Saturday, qualifying (Speed Channel, 5 a.m.); Sunday, race (Speed Channel, 4:30 a.m.).

Track: Hungaroring (road course, 2.465 miles).

Race distance: 172.55 miles, 70 laps.

Last year: Kimi Raikkonen finally avoided misfortune, using the pits to perfection and racing away from Michael Schumacher for his fourth victory of 2005. Raikkonen stalled on the 36th lap the previous week at Germany and had engine problems while practicing for the two events before that.

Fast facts: Giancarlo Fisichella is the only driver other than Schumacher and Alonso to win a race this season -- the second race at Kuala Lumpur on March 19. ... Jacques Villeneuve is expected to miss this weekend's race following his crash in Germany. ... Renault drivers will use mass dampers on its cars this weekend. The dampers, once considered illegal, are used to help neutralize the car's vertical movement on bumps.

INDY RACING LEAGUE

Last race: Helio Castroneves took advantage of a superior car and an aggressive strategy to win the Firestone Indy 400, ending team owner Roger Penske's open-wheel drought at Michigan International Speedway. Castroneves beat Vitor Meira by 1.62 seconds, picking up his series-high fourth victory of the season and moving past teammate Sam Hornish Jr. for the points lead.
