THROUGH WILDLIFE DEPARTMENT

Fishing book available

SPECIAL TO THE PVT

The Nevada Department of Wildlife wants you to go fishing and to help get you started, the department has just released a "How to Fish in Nevada" guide.

The guide covers everything from how to fish specifically for all the fish species found in the Silver State to the basic fishing equipment needed and techniques for fishing in still or flowing water. Over the last 12 months expert anglers were interviewed and helped write and edit chapters on their favorite fishing techniques and equipment used.

The book was the brainchild of Mark Warren, a department staff fisheries biologist. Warren said, "Nevada is chock-full of numerous streams and lakes that are the perfect place to wet your line. The different bodies of water found around the state not only offer individuals places to fish, they also offer anglers the opportunity to catch different varieties of fish species."

To assist you in your Nevada fishing experiences, the Department of Wildlife also has fishable waters maps covering the three regions of the state: western, eastern and southern. The regional fishing maps list some 650 fishable waters located around the state, together with lists of species found in each body of water. With both of these valuable tools in hand, anglers can't go wrong.

"The real benefit in this book and the maps are to give anglers new and old alike some ideas about beginning fishing methods for those who may just be starting the sport and different techniques for those who already fish. It will give them options and, I hope, they will discover new and exciting fishing opportunities in the state," Warren said.

Funding for the color relief maps was provided from a federal Sportfish Restoration grant. Both the books and maps are available free of charge at all department offices.
