Gus Sullivan, who has taken over for the veteran Bruce Moen as football coach at Beatty High School, will greet the 2006 Hornets Aug. 10. Just nine days later, the Hornets travel for a scrimmage at Tonopah, where the Muckers will be going after their third consecutive Nevada Class A Central Division championship.

The Hornets and Muckers will meet in a division game Oct. 20, at Tonopah. The season begins Aug. 25, with Beatty traveling to Laughlin for a contest against a 1-A Southern Division team. Laughlin eliminated Tonopah 62-40 in the first round of the 2005 playoffs, after the Muckers had rolled to seven consecutive victories to earn a No. 1 seed for post-season play.

After an open date Sept. 2, Beatty goes to West Division Pyramid Lake Sept. 9, to Lone Pine, Calif., Sept. 15 and to Big Pine, Calif., Sept. 23 for non-division games.

The Beatty home opener will be Sept. 29 against Henderson Warren-Walker.

In succeeding weeks, the Hornets are:

At home Oct. 6, vs. division opponent Spring Mountain;

At Round Mountain for a division contest Oct. 13;

At division and Nye County rival Tonopah Oct. 20, and

At Indian Springs for a division game Oct. 27.

The football playoffs are scheduled for Nov. 3-4 and 10-11, with the state championship game Nov. 18. All playoff sites are to be announced.

Mike Duszynski will return as the Lady Hornets' volleyball coach, with their first workout Aug. 14. On Aug. 19, Beatty treks to Tonopah for the Muckers' volleyball jamboree.

The Hornets will spend most of their time on the road this season, going to Laughlin Aug. 25; to Pyramid Lake Sept. 9; to Lone Pine, Calif., Sept. 15; to Big Pine, Calif., Sept. 23; to Round Mountain Oct. 13; to Austin Oct. 14; to Tonopah Oct. 20, and to Indian Springs Oct. 27.

Home matches are Sept. 29, vs. Henderson Warren-Walker; Oct. 6, vs. Lund, and Oct. 26, vs. Las Vegas Trinity Christian.

The Southern 1-A regionals are Nov. 3-4, with the state tournament Nov. 10-11 at a site to be announced.

Nancy Hein, the K-12 principal, announced the coaching staff for the 2006-2007 fall campaign.

Dale Lerbakken will be the athletic director, assisted by secretary Lindy Cruz.
