Trailer stolen, recovered
Burglaries and thefts seem to be on the rise in Pahrump, at least in the past couple of weeks. Sheriff's deputies were dispatched to the north part of town the evening of July 24 when resident Larry Walden, 45, reported someone trying to steal his travel trailer from his property. Walden, whose residence is near Fort Churchill Road and Becky Lane, observed two suspects pull his trailer from the property about 9 p.m. He said they were using a black pickup truck. When the deputies arrived, the suspects were pulling the trailer through the desert north of Fort Churchill and west of Rob Roy Street. The driver of the pickup was using only a spotlight to see, his vehicle lights turned off so he would not be detected, according to the sheriff's office report. Deputy O'Donnell approached the vehicle, whereupon the suspects tried to unhitch the trailer from the truck. O'Donnell ordered the suspects to get on the ground. Two other deputies and a sergeant arrived while O'Donnell was handcuffing the suspects. Walden arrived then, confirming his ownership of the trailer. The two suspects, Raymond Jagt, 34, and Rodney Garcia, 40, were transported to the Pahrump detention facility and booked on charges of grand larceny, possession of stolen property, conspiracy to commit crime and possession of burglary tools. Bail was set at $21,000 for each of the men. Over the preceding weekend other lesser thefts occurred from businesses in Pahrump. Just after midnight July 22, burglars broke some windows at Evergreen extended nursing care facility at 4501 N. Blagg Road and entered the building. When employees arrived the next morning, the only thing determined to be missing was the safe. Deputies soon discovered the safe, which had been opened and the contents removed. Missing were miscellaneous personal effects of residents of the home and some financial bonds of unspecified amount. The sheriff's office is still investigating. |
