This weekend 6,000 runners representing law enforcement agencies from the U.S., England, Germany, Australia and Canada are expected to participate in 22nd annual Baker to Vegas Challenge.

The race begins at noon in Baker, Calif., and the first runner is expected to come through Pahrump on Highway 160 at 9:30 p.m.

Two hundred twenty-eight law enforcement teams are registered for the event. The Pahrump Valley Chamber of Commerce hospitality booth will be located in front of Saddle West Hotel and Casino overnight on Saturday, armed with hot chocolate and other refreshments supplied by local businesses and the citizens of Pahrump via a grant of up to $2,000 from the Town of Pahrump.

Runners will also be treated to homemade cookies supplied by the Pahrump Senior Center. Tuesday, town board members awarded a grant to the senior center to cover the cost of cookie ingredients.

Las Vegas commuters from Pahrump are forewarned that slow-moving support vehicles follow the runners and traffic flow will be impeded going up the Spring Mountain pass from approximately 10 p.m. Saturday until noon on Sunday. It may be faster to detour to Highway 95.
