Maureen Fields of Pahrump is missing. Her 2004 Hyundai was found abandoned Feb. 16 in the Chicago Valley, just over the California border in Inyo County.

It was reported that air assets, including a helicopter and one other plane, plus a dog, were used to search a wide desert area.

Fields was described in a Nye County Sheriff's Office report as "a dependable employee of Wells Fargo Bank in Pahrump." The 41-year old teller failed to arrive for work on Feb. 15.

Her husband, Paul, said she had worked for the bank for about three months and left their home for work as usual about 8 a.m. that day.

"I'm a lung cancer survivor and a little winded," said Paul Fields. "For almost 20 years we've been together. I'm making more copies of her picture to post everywhere.

"The cops don't make it easy; they consider me a suspect," said Fields. "They won't tell me anything except that they found the car with the keys in it. She can't walk far because she has back problems. I just don't know."

A temporary license plate from Saitta Trudeau, a Pahrump Valley auto dealership, was still on the vehicle when it was found.

"I just bought the car for her," said Paul. "The license plate just came. It's a special plate because she loved dogs."

According to her husband, Maureen would never leave her dog behind, had she just decided to leave.

"Even her watch has a picture of her dog on it. Her dog is here and she's not and that's disturbing," he said.

"Every time I come into the house her dog Woofie looks on the porch for his mommy," said Fields.

"We have not given up looking in the desert for her," said Sheriff Tony DeMeo. "We sent out deputies on ATVs and our new motorcycles to search."

The couple moved to Pahrump last year in April from Fort Meyers, Fla. The Sheriff's Office said Maureen has not contacted her family, friends or employer.

Anyone with information should contact the Nye County Sheriff's Office, Detective Division, at 751-7000.
