An elderly woman diagnosed with Alzheimer's disease was found wondering about in the area of Little Shadow Mountain about 3 p.m. yesterday. Residents in the area found her as she stumbled into the rocky foothills.

Like many others in the valley, the woman is cared for by her family and is on a waiting list to be placed in a care facility.

The people who rescued the woman want no credit.

"It's just neighbor helping neighbor," said the person who first saw the woman struggling to keep her balance.

"She was disoriented and it was getting late in the afternoon."

Actually, it was the neighborhood llamas that first notified their owner something was amiss in the quiet community.

"Our llamas notice anything out of the ordinary, and when I saw them all looking up to the same area, I knew there was something there."

It was chilly yesterday and this time of year, when the sun goes over Little Shadow Mountain, temperatures easily drop 15 degrees as long shadows claim the land.

The woman was helped down the mountain and given water and a place to rest while the authorities were notified. She was bruised and cut from falling.

At last report, the elderly woman was home with her grateful family.
