Shadow Mountain Christian Fellowship is seeking musicians and singers, ages 15-21, to take part in a community youth praise band, utilizing sophisticated instrumentation and choral arrangements. No family left behind Thanksgiving dinner A 'No Family Left Behind' Thanksgiving dinner will be held from noon to 1:30 p.m. Thursday at the Bob Ruud Community Center. Everyone is invited to attend. There will be a large variety of household goods, tools and clothes. Cinderella Youth Scholarship Pageant The Cinderella Youth Scholarship Program and Pageant is a youth development program designed to build confidence and provide educational opportunities. Workshops will be held from 5:30-7:30 p.m. Tuesday and Dec. 6 at the Bob Ruud Community Center. These workshops will give prospective contestants a chance to practice and have questions answered. The pageant will give anyone, from newborns to 26 year olds, the opportunity to compete in various divisions on local, state and international levels for over $100,000 in cash and prizes. The Nye County Preliminary Cinderella Pageant will be held Dec. 9 at the Bob Ruud Community Center. Friends of Animals fundraiser sale A fundraising sale for Southern Nye County Friends of Animals and to spay our strays will be held from 7:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Dec. 1-2 at 4141 Charleston Park Ave., west of Bannavitch. Items are new and almost nothing will be over $10. Our Lady of the Valley fish fry The Knights of Columbus and the Daughters of Mary are sponsoring Our Lady of the Valley Catholic Church's fundraising fish fry from 4-7 p.m. Dec. 2. Courthouse to host artists' reception The Pahrump Arts Council will sponsor a reception for the 'Holidays and Celebrations' art show, from noon to 3 p.m. Dec. 2 at the Nye County Courthouse, 1520 E. Basin Ave. 'Holidays and Celebrations' is a mixed-medium, open show that will be on display at the courthouse through Jan. 6, 2006. Pahrump-a-Pum-Pum Festival Dec. 3 and 4 The Pahrump-a-Pum-Pum Festival of Lights and Children's Holiday Parade will be held from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. Dec. 3 and from 10:30 a.m. to 6 p.m. Dec. 4 at the Pahrump Valley Auto Mall. The two-day event kicks off with the Pahrump-a-Pum-Pum Festival Parade at 10 a.m. Dec. 3 from Wheeler Plaza to the Valley Auto Mall. All are welcome, including pets, to join the holiday parade either by walking, stroller, wagon, golf cart, bicycle or tricycle. The theme is 'Sights and Sounds of the Season.' Highlights include breakfast and pictures with Santa ($2), a community sing-a-long, craft items, entertainment and a raffle of donated trees and wreaths. Donations of decorated trees and wreaths for this event must be delivered between 5-8 p.m. Dec. 2 at the Pahrump Valley Auto Plaza showroom. This festival is sponsored by the Pahrump Valley Chamber of Commerce, in conjunction with the Pahrump Valley Auto Plaza and the Pahrump Tourism Advisory Board, with funding from the Town of Pahrump Room Tax monies. All proceeds from this Festival will go to the 'Letters to Santa' program sponsored by the Pahrump Lions Club. Silver Tappers tickets on sale Tickets are on sale for the Nevada Silver Tappers benefit shows at 3 p.m. and 7 p.m. Dec. 4 in the Saddle West showroom. Hospice to hold 'Festival of Trees' Companies and organizations have the opportunity to be sponsors for the Nathan Adelson Hospice 'Festival of Trees.' A group can sponsor a six feet tree for $300, a three feet tree for $100 or a wreath for $50. All sponsors will gather from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Dec. 4 to decorate their tree or wreath at the Pahrump Nugget convention center. The trees and wreaths will be brought out to the casino and lounge and put on display until Dec. 11. Then, they will be brought back to the convention center for a cocktail reception and auction. Free breast cancer counseling The Center for Compassionate Care will provide breast cancer counseling over the telephone at no cost to anyone newly diagnosed, in treatment, having a recurrence or in remission. Life partners, family members or friends of anyone with breast cancer can also speak with a trained counselor. School district early childhood screening The Nye County School District has a responsibility to locate, assess and identify children ages 3-5 who are not enrolled in any school program and who may have some kind of developmental delays. If your child is currently being served through Nevada Early Intervention, please contact us about 90 days prior to your child turning three years of age. Volunteer advocates for children needed The Fifth Judicial District Court is seeking volunteers to act as a Court-Appointed Special Advocate for children in need. CASA, a nationwide organization, volunteers spend time with a child (or children) and make recommendations to the court. Senior Companions seeks volunteers Low income seniors 60 and over can earn $212 per month tax-free by volunteering for Senior Companions, a program that provides companionship, socialization and transportation to other seniors who have difficulty with daily living tasks. Burn ban lifted for Nye County Nye County Emergency Services reminds the community that controlled, open burning is now permissible in Nye County. In all other Nye County communities, contact the local Nye County Sheriff's Office dispatch. Target shooting notice People target shooting on public lands are urged to use extreme caution. Steel core ammunition is a known fire starter. The head of steel core ammo is coated with copper and will spark on rocks after going through a target, igniting vegetation. Shooters are responsible for fire suppression costs incurred by shooting. Shooting is not allowed in the following areas: Red Rock Canyon National Conservation Area; Sloan Canyon National Conservation Area; Lake Mead National Recreation Area; Sunrise Mountain; Nellis; and Apex. Komen grant funds available Grant funds are available for Esmeralda and Nye County residents through the Las Vegas Affiliate of the Susan G. Rotaract is an international program of Rotary International for young professionals, ages 18-30, who want to make a difference. Rotaract clubs conduct meetings, usually every two weeks. Members use their weekends for service projects, social events and workshops. They work hard, but believe in having a good time.
