A panel of little faith: Town and county officials met Tuesday to iron out their differences with lawyers for two big residential developers over what they owe the Pahrump Valley in exchange for the expected influx of new residents.

Officials battle with builders
Deep distrust, bruising rhetoric and animosity was the tone of Wednesday's meeting at the Bob Ruud Community Center, where a panel of elected officials and other public stakeholders listened to two developers' lead attorney make a sales pitch for "fairness," understanding and lenient dealing.

The first day of the Nevada 1000 - a Best in the Desert off-road marathon - is complete. Day Two began at 5:30 a.m. today; days three and four will follow at the same times Saturday and Sunday.
