PHILLIP GOMEZ / PVT Pahrump Valley High School conducted its first annual awards ceremony for its new crop of Junior Reserved Officers Training Corps cadets. The Trojan Battalion, partly pictured here, were awarded medals individually and by company, bestowed by a number of military organizations for their service, achievements and motivation during the past year in the school's new ROTC program - Hoorah!

Nye County School District Superintendent Dr. Rob Roberts, U.S. Army, Ret., awarded Cadet Maj. Kolena Brown, left with Dr. Roberts, the Army's West Point sword as a trophy of her winning the top honor of the evening: the superintendent's cadet of the year for leadership and excellence. Brown, along with Sgt. Samantha Steven, First Sgt. Megan Riddle and 2nd Lt. Nathanael Waggoner, also each won the Department of the Army's superior cadet awards.
