Round Mountain residence declared 'nuisance' by countyPVT After giving Clifford Lambert five days to abate the unsafe condition of his Jefferson Street house, the commissioners said it would be torn down. Lambert, who reportedly now lives in a nursing home, used to live in the house with no indoor plumbing or heat. He used buckets and boxes as a toilet. As a result, human feces are found throughout the residence, according to the sheriff's office investigation report. Lambert used disposable propane bottles to heat the residence. Now there are hundreds of the bottles all over the place, inside and out. Old tires, boxes, a mountain of tin cans and other debris can be seen in documenting photographs. In the sheriff's report the reporting officer wrote, "There is not a proper way to secure this residence and we have had to warn people not to be around this house ... We have had reports of juveniles wanting to go inside the residence and we have found evidence of people at least walking up to the doors." In the photos, the house appears to be nothing more than a shack, the grounds strewn with lumber and junk and the inside stuffed to the windowsills with garbage. A pile of tin cans just outside the front door was apparently Lambert's Dumpster. County officials fear that bulldozing the house might touch off a spark igniting a propane bottle. Plans are for a HAZMAT team to enter the house and remove hazardous materials before the house is destroyed. The cost of abatement will be assessed against the real property, if there is any. |
