Kelli Nelson of Pahrump Valley will compete in the high jump today at Boulder City. In the Pahrump Valley Invitational last Saturday, Nelson cleared a personal-best 5 feet, 2 inches.
The objective all season long for the Pahrump Valley High School track teams is to be peaking as the Class 3-A regional and state meets approach.

Based on what the Trojans have accomplished in their most recent meets, so far, so good. But, they have two regular-season meets remaining - the Ron Resler Invitational at the regional site (Boulder City) today at 3 p.m. and The Meadows Invitational May 7 in Las Vegas at 9 a.m.

Let's see where the PVHS teams are when those competitions have been recorded.

Only two competitors in each event go to Boulder City today, since more than 16 teams are entered in that meet and multi-heat events will slow down the pace somewhat.

In the regionals, the top three in each event will move on to the state championships, to be contested May 20-21 at Palo Verde High School in west-central Las Vegas. The top five from each event at the Northern 3-A meet at Lowry High School in Winnemucca May 13-14 will make the trip to Vegas.

With staying injury and illness-free, as well as academically solvent the chief priorities, the Trojans actually started the stretch drive Tuesday in a meet at Bonanza High School in Las Vegas. The Trojans' opponents were the homestanding Blazers, along with Clark and Bishop Gorman. All are Sunset Region Class 4-A teams.

In the girls competition, Clark defeated Bonanza 79-66, with the Trojans at 64 1/2 and Bishop Gorman 40 1/2.

In the boys meet, Bonanza won with 151 1/2 points, while PVHS had 54 1/2, Clark 30 and Bishop Gorman 19.

Girls

Dominique Maloy set school records in the 100-meter dash (0:12.0) and 200 (0:25.0), then won the long jump at 17 feet, 1 1/2 inches. Her time in the 400 was 0:58.5, her second-best time of the spring.

The Lady Trojans won the 4x100 relay in 0:54.0 and was second in the 4x800.

Kelli Nelson was second in the high jump at 4-10. Ashley Logan went 27-1 1/2 to finish second in the triple jump.

Boys

Kyle Floyd won the 100-meter dash in 11 seconds flat and was second in the 200 in 0:23.1 for the Trojans. Bryan Eleogram was second in the 400 in 0:51.2.

Ricky Johnson continued to excel in the 1600, winning in 4:54.1. In the 800, Johnson was first in 2:06.7.

The Trojans ran the 4x400-meter relay in 3:39.6 to finish second to Bonanza (3:37.4). PV was second in the 4x800 in 9:09.9; Bonanza won in 8:47.

Other Trojan finishes:

€ Jeremiah Ward was second in the high jump at 5-10;

€ James Chapman had a season-best 11-foot effort in the pole vault to place second;

€ Nick Gonzalez threw the shot 46-4 to finish second.
