Lake Mead center to open Saturday

SPECIAL TO THE PVT

The National Park Service and Nevada Department of Wildlife will unveil a $1.4 million boating safety center during a public grand opening celebration Saturday at 11 a.m. at Boulder Beach, the NDOW announced..

During the event, the public will be able to visit boating safety and water education displays that will be erected and staffed by a number of public and private organizations. Remote controlled mini boats, Bobby and Coastie, will be on hand to entertain and educate children.

The new center will be used by the agencies to provide education for their officers in a classroom setting while having the ability to easily access the lake for "on-the-water" training. Boating and water safety classes sponsored by various organizations also will be held at the center.

The center is at Boulder Beach, which is located along Lakeshore Road between Lake Mead Marina and Hemenway Harbor.
