Community, high school choir join forces for spring concert

PVT

The Pahrump Arts Council and the Pahrump Community Choir is getting into spring fever with its annual spring concert Wednesday night at 7 p.m. in the Bob Ruud Community Center.

The concert is sponsored by the Pahrump Arts Council and will highlight "Music of America" in celebration of its rich musical heritage.

The concert is free and open to the public. Donations will be accepted at the door. The Arts Council will also serve punch and cookies after the concert.

The chorus has 35 voices and is directed by Andy Barnum. Special guests will be the 18-voice Pahrump Valley High School select choir directed by Doug Farr.

The music featured this year will span the history of America, from the Revolutionary War to the present. "Most songs the audience will recognize, such as Stephen Foster's 'Ring, Ring the Banjo,' and 'Cool Water' made famous by the Sons of the Pioneers in the 1940s, and some might not be familiar," Barnum said.

The high school choir will sing "El Grillo" and then join the chorus for "Joshua Fit the Battle of Jericho," as well as "America the Beautiful."

"This concert marks the first time that we have joined forces with the high school choir to sing together," Barnum said. "We hope it will become a tradition."

Membership in the Pahrump Community Chorus is open to anyone, high school age and older, who loves to sing.
