Fishing Report
A few stripers have been taken with top water lures in Las Vegas Wash, but most of the fish have been caught with jigs and anchovies. Boaters are chumming with corn to attract the fish. Anglers who have been trying their luck in the Overton Arm have had some success recently for stripers around Fish Island. Most of the fish are around a pound and are being caught with anchovies. Largemouth bass fishing has been fairly good near the islands north of Overton Beach Marina. Catfish were caught over the weekend in that area and at Stewart's Point. WAYNE E. KIRCH WILDLIFE MANAGEMENT AREA - Fishing pressure dropped from the previous week, but anglers that did fish continued to experience good success for rainbow trout on Cold Springs and Haymeadow reservoirs. The majority of the fish were the recently planted trout that averaged 11 inches. A few trout that measured 14 to 16 inches were also taken. NDOW recommends that duck hunters visiting the area bring their fishing rods and take advantage of the good fishing opportunities on all the reservoirs. LAKE MOHAVE - Now is the time for fishing above the Cottonwood Cove area because boaters are having good success for stripers that weigh anywhere from eight ounces to five pounds. The fish are being caught by drifting with anchovies and squid at depths of 30 to 50 feet. Besides the stripers, Nevada Department of Wildlife creel census clerks saw several two-pound catfish over the weekend. The fish were caught by boaters who were fishing for stripers with anchovies near the bottom of the lake. The fishing was difficult at Willow Beach following last week's rainbow trout plant because of a low water level. However, most anglers managed to catch a few fish before the trout headed for the main channel. EAGLE VALLEY RESERVOIR - Pete Gill from Nevada State Parks said fishing continues to be somewhat slow but anglers fishing from the dock are having some luck landing stocked rainbow trout. The fish averaged 11 inches and were taken on a variety of baits. A few brown trout that averaged 12 inches were also taken. The best time to catch the fish is early mornings and evenings. The water is clearing and anglers have taken some fish with spinners. ECHO CANYON RESERVOIR - Ben Johnson from Nevada State Parks said that despite low water levels, anglers did catch a few small bass. A few stocked rainbow trout were also taken with PowerBait and live worms. URBAN PONDS - Fishing pressure continued to drop from the previous week at Floyd Lamb State Park, Lorenzi Park, and Sunset Park in Las Vegas and Veterans Memorial Park in Boulder City. Angler success declined, but is expected to pick up following the last NDOW catfish stocking scheduled for this week. |
