Mills, Caffey receive prestigious honors

PVT

Cassandra Mills and Patrick Caffey have been inducted into the Phi Theta Kappa international honor society.

The two students attend the Community College of Southern Nevada Pahrump campus. Both were home-schooled as high school students.

Caffey has a perfect 4.0 grade point average at CCSN. Mills has a 3.9 GPA.

Mills said the induction is a matter of prestige to put on her resume. Caffey said the induction means the two will have opportunities for various scholarships available only to Phi Theta Kappa members.

Mills is taking a full load at CCSN this semester, with courses on jazz appreciation, music appreciation, biology and English. She also works two jobs, for the Economic Development Authority of Esmeralda and Nye Counties (EDEN) and First Move Fitness, as well as volunteers at the Pahrump Valley Chamber of Commerce.

Mills is completing her first year of college and hopes to transfer to UNLV where she plans to study teaching.

Caffey is also finishing up his first year and takes jazz appreciation as well as political science, English and history. He plans to transfer to the University of Nevada, Reno after CCSN and wants to become a writer.

Caffey was able to attend the society induction ceremony at the CCSN Cheyenne Campus in Las Vegas Sunday, in which 147 members of the regional Phi Theta Kappa chapter were inducted. Mills was too busy with her other work to attend
