Flower prices up this week - but don't blame retailers
"Normally, you can buy a dozen roses for $55 but right now they cost $65," she explains. "But there are plenty of beautiful floral arrangements starting at about $30." In addition to flowers, tradition dictates that someone else cooks on mom's special day. A brief survey of local restaurants shows reservations are definitely necessary, even though some eateries have extended hours for Sunday. Most establishments are also offering Mother's Day specials. In Amargosa, the Longstreet Hotel and Casino is making it easy for the whole family to celebrate. All mothers eat free when a second meal of equal value is purchased and children under five years old also eat free. Prices start at $5.95 and meals are served from 7 a.m. until 11 p.m. At the other end of the price spectrum in Pahrump, Symphony's Restaurant at the winery offers a special menu Sunday, from noon to 8 p.m., from $16 to $22 per person. Wulfy's Mother's Day celebration starts Friday night, continues Saturday evening and all day Sunday, from 11 a.m. to 10 p.m. Price per person is $16 and includes choice of entrée and desert. For hearty appetites, the Last Chance Steakhouse is serving prime rib from 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. on Sunday. |
