Beatty Christmas party planned

THE WHOLE TOWN INVITED TO CELEBRATE SUCCESSES

By RICHARD STEPHENS
PVT

Santa will pay his annual visit to Beatty children on Dec. 12, but something new is being planned for the entire community this year.

A town Christmas party is scheduled the very next day from at 6 p.m. to midnight. Both events will occur in the Beatty Community Center, and all the town's residents, neighbors, and visiting tourists are invited to attend.

This new event will include a potluck dinner, with everyone encouraged to bring a favorite dish or dessert. Meat and basic entrees, along with punch, coffee, water, paper plates, cups, and utensils will be furnished.

A bar, hosted by the Beatty Volunteer Fire Department, will open at 8 p.m.

The Beatty Lions Club, which is also helping with the event, will be accepting donations. Organizers plan to have a live band and dancing after the dinner.

In addition to the Lions and the fire department, several other organizations, local businesses and individuals are involved in planning and putting on this event.

Rick Wilson, who serves on the Beatty Town Advisory Board, and his wife LaDonna have been spearheading the event, driven by the desire to celebrate the town's recent accomplishments.

"We had been looking for something that the whole town would enjoy to try our new facilities," said Wilson.

"We expect around 500 people will show up throughout the night. It should be fun."

Beatty, said Wilson, has come alive in recent years, and offered the following examples: "The 4th of July fireworks show is world class. The Burro Days event draws many people from out of town.

"The Economic Development Corporation has made great strides.

"The habitat committee pilot project is something the whole country is watching. We are placing sensitive species in the hands of the public instead of government control. How is that for a twist?

"They are developing a trails system to promote tourism while enhancing the habitat.

"The Chamber is into phase II of our tourism planning to promote Beatty as a destination instead of a pass-through town.

"All our groups have been working together toward the same goals. Beatty should be very proud."

Anyone interested in helping out with the Christmas events, or need more information is encouraged to call the Wilsons at 553-2680.
