Lady Trojans sweep EaglesSOCCER TEAMS 0-1-1 IN LEAGUE GAMES VS. BOULDER CITY
By DON McDERMOTT The Lady Trojans won 25-19, 25-15 and 25-19 against the homestanding Eagles in the final match of the regular season. The Southern playoffs will be played in the Pahrump Valley High School gym Nov. 7, with matches at 3 p.m., 5 p.m. and 7 p.m. Two teams from the South will join two from the North in the Nevada Interscholastic Activities Association-Las Vegas Review-Journal Final 4 Nov. 14 at Coronado High School in Henderson. Pairings will be announced. In junior varsity action, Pahrump Valley won 25-21, 25-16, and the B-team prevailed 25-20, 27-25. Boys Soccer For the fourth time in nine Southern Class 3-A League games, Pahrump Valley had to settle for a tie. This time, coach Dave Houser's team battled to a 0-0 standoff with Boulder City. The Trojans were 4-1-4 in the league going into a game Thursday against Ely White Pine, the Southern leader. The Southern 3-A League regional tournament will be played Nov. 6 and 8 at the Bettye Wilson Soccer Complex at Cimarron-Memorial High School in Las Vegas. In the North, the leading teams are North Tahoe (7-0-2), Truckee-Tahoe (6-0-2) and 2002 champion Incline (5-2-2) in the Tahoe Division, and Yerington (7-1-2), Winnemucca Lowry (5-2-1) and Spring Creek (3-2-4) in the Humboldt Division. The Northern playoffs are next weekend. Girls Soccer Defending Southern League champion Boulder City won 5-0 against Pahrump Valley. The Lady Trojans, coached by Renee Park, were 5-3-1 going into their league finale against ElyWhite Pine. Pahrump Valley was coming off a 3-1 win against Overton Moapa Valley. Caley Loud, Kalee Schnelzer and Sharlene Whitcotton scored for the Trojans, who had Joelene Shelton and Connie Hamrick in goal. In a junior varsity game Tuesday, the PV girls won 2-0, with Ivoree Alderson in goal. Pahrump Valley had overpowered Moapa Valley 7-0 in its previous start. Up North, the top girls soccer teams at the moment are 2001 state champion Truckee-Tahoe (6-0-1), North Tahoe (5-0-2) and Incline (1-3-3). Cross country The Pahrump Valley teams return to action after a two-week hiatus today at Boulder City in the Southern Nevada Class 3-A Regional championships. Coach Ed Dabrowski takes his team to Veterans Memorial Park for the meet, which determines qualifiers for the state championships to be contested Nov. 8 in Reno. The Pahrump Valley boys will run at 9:40 a.m., while the girls compete at 2:40 p.m. on a 3.1-mile course. |
