Unusual website to promote Beatty

PVT

BEATTY - If you are seeking a little adventure, you might want to check out Beatty's new official website at www.beattynevada.org. Laced with tips on desert survival, it is not your usual mild-mannered promotional pabulum.

Aimed primarily at tourists with a sense of high adventure, the gritty site, designed by CLM Design, of Reno, plays up the town's image as a destination for those looking for a rugged, unique desert experience. The main page greets the visitor with the motto, "A few miles southeast of nowhere ... life begins."

Several Beatty residents and one member of the CLM staff served as models to portray highly idiosyncratic characters who serve as "guides" to explain different facets of the Beatty experience.

Gene Anderson portrays the town reporter, who fills you in on local history. Craig Brown is the "pump jockey" who points out places to stay and eat. Brad Hunt, as "Jack," is the expert on Death Valley. Gail Letcher, the CLM employee, is the "unknown artist" who knows all about local art and culture. Maxine Makinster, shown as "Annie," is your nature guide, and Glenn Simmons is the "barkeep" who fills visitors in on extreme sport opportunities.

Several local groups, including the Beatty Chamber of Commerce, the Beatty Economic Development Corporation, and the Beatty Town Board provided input in the development of the web site.
