Ringle opens new Motel 6 in Beatty

BEATTY - A new, 70-rood Motel 6 could open its doors as early as Wednesday, General Manager Keith Kearns said last week.

Kearns is also general manager of the 80-room Stagecoach Casino, just down the block. The two properties - and the Death Valley Nut and Candy Company in between - are all owned by Eddie Ringle.

Kearns said the Stagecoach has been running at 90 percent to 100 percent occupancy recently, as drivers and engineers from various car companies make their annual visit to Beatty to test their vehicles in the heat of nearby Death Valley.

The Burro Inn, The Phoenix Inn and El Portal Motel are three other motels in Beatty, which rests near the midpoint between Pahrump and Tonopah. The Motel 6 will bring the number of motel rooms available in Beatty to 335, or roughly one room for every three people living the community.

Deputy State Fire Marshall Tony Capucci was scheduled to inspect the building July 17, Kearns said. Motel 6 company officials are holding an orientation day for the employees Monday, he said.

Prices at the Motel 6 will be $47 per night. The motel is already listed on the Motel 6 website, Kearns said, and will be included in a booklet listing all the motels nationwide so travelers can plan stops in Beatty.

Nye County Commissioner Joni Eastley said the motel will contribute needed revenue to the town of Beatty in the form of the 9 percent room tax.

The new manager will be Kitty Schubert, who said the new motel should employ about a dozen workers.

The Motel 6 doesn't have a swimming pool, but guests can use the pool at the Stagecoach, Kearns said.

Motel 6, part of Accor Lodging North America, celebrated its 40th anniversary last year. The first Motel 6 opened in 1962 in Santa Barbara, Calif. where one night's stay cost $6.

Accor boasts of being the largest hotel operator in the world with over 3,700 locations in 90 countries. Motel 6 has over 800 locations in the U.S. and Canada.
