Dancers descend on RCMS for 22nd annual hoe-downThe caller will call and the dresses will twirl this weekend, when the Pahrump Valley Squares host their 22nd annual hoe-down in the gym at Rosemary Clarke Middle School.The event kicks off at 7 p.m. today with about an hour of round dancing, which is what you would get if traditional square dancing and ballroom dancing got married and had a kid. Then, from 8-10 p.m., dancers will take the floor for a combination of square and round dancing. And whatever doesn't work so well Friday night should get ironed out during the day Saturday, when a pair of workshops will be held. The first workshop, from 10 a.m. to noon, will focus on round dancing. The second, from 2-4 p.m., will be dedicated to square dancing. The workshops will provide both a "brush-up" on familiar steps and a chance to learn a few new ones, according to PV Squares president Carl Spiller. "The caller usually picks out two or three (steps) that were troublesome Friday night," Spiller explained. And all of |
