After pouring nearly 15 years of his life into playing baseball, looking for a shot at the Major Leagues, Rich Lauver had to settle for something else.Lauver misses shot at major leagues; spends time building a winning teamAfter pouring nearly 15 years of his life into playing baseball, looking for a shot at the Major Leagues,Lauver, who is the coach of the defending 2-A American Legion state champion Nevada Bell Dust Devils, had his shot, but a broken hand his senior year in college effectively ended his hopes for a professional career. "I tried out for 24 major league teams," Lauver said. "But the injury kept me from making it. I was depressed a little at first. When you've given that much for 15 years and looked at what you had accomplished, I had to get down for a little while. But I'm past that now." A resident of the Pahrump Valley for 20 years and the son of Dave and Debbie Lauver, Rich is married to the former Cassondra Tudor. Dave is president of the Pahrump Valley Little League, and both he and his son have stayed close to the game. His career at Pahrump Valley High School won him three conference awards, as all co |
